France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine uses the EoleCC web platform to subtitle its documentaries

Montpellier, France – 31/05/2023 – France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine (.3NoA) has chosen Videomenthe’s EoleCC solution to subtitle its documentaries for the CIRCOM prize.

France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine (.3NoA) is a 100% regional channel that aims to promote regional culture and creativity.

The channel took part in the European CIRCOM 2023 prize, which each year rewards the best programmes from regional television stations in 11 categories. 3NoA applied in the ‘Documentaries’ category, submitting four 52-minute programmes.

« “We needed to subtitle these documentaries in English so that the competition jury could understand them, and we did so to extremely tight deadlines! We’ve been working with Videomenthe for a number of years on other projects, so we asked them to produce the subtitles. Using automated subtitling with the assistance of a translator seemed to us to be the right combination to guarantee the deadlines without altering the quality of the subtitles”, explains Jean-Luc Hachon, Delegate for the Coordination of Operations and Development at France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine.

The EoleCC solution offers a mix of automated tools and human actions, enabling fast but high-quality collaborative subtitling. The way it works is very simple: documentaries are uploaded to the platform, then transcribed into French using powerful Artificial Intelligence tools. The text is then automatically translated into English, and Videomenthe’s professional translators intervene directly on the platform to proofread and adjust the content (text and time-codes). Finally, still on the EoleCC platform, the customer validates the subtitles and triggers their overlay before retrieving the finished videos.

“We offer customers a turnkey service. In the case of .3NoA, timing and budget were two key factors. Artificial Intelligence saves a lot of time in generating subtitles, and we used several of our professional translators to process each piece of content simultaneously. We’re delighted to have successfully met this challenge,” adds Muriel le Bellac, President of Videomenthe.

“We’d like to pay tribute to Videomenthe’s responsiveness and professionalism, which enabled us to be perfectly on time for the CIRCOM prize! The ability of the EoleCC solution to manage multiple subtitling tasks in parallel and in collaborative mode is a big plus, and the translators did a superb job!” concludes Jean-Luc Hachon.
